In the Light of the Lord,
Weekday Reflections for Lent and Easter
Ernest Ferlita, S.J.
Jesus, as we say in the Creed, is "Light from Light." To him, too, we sing from the psalms: "In your light, we see light (36:10) and "The revelation of your words sheds light, giving understanding to the simple (119:130). These reflections on the readings for the weekdays of Lent and Easter are, therefore, structured "in the light of the Lord." Geared for the most important seasons of the church's liturgical year, the meditations are offered to anyone hoping for a deeper faith and understanding. As St. Paul says to the Ephesians: "Live as children of light, for light produces every kind of goodness and righteousness and truth. Try to learn what is pleasing to the Lord" (5:8-10). Helpful for anyone who wants a deeper understanding of the Scripture, the meditations may be used by preachers, deacons, and other homilists. Prayer groups will also find the meditations meaningful as they study and pray.
